Frequently asked questions
Q. Total Nutrition does not contain rice?
A. Laughing Dog has been feeding dogs for 70 years. During that time, we have never been told that dogs fed on Laughing Dog have had any allergies, skin irritation etc. We can only put this down to our slow baking manufacturing process and good wholesome ingredients. After all many of these problems only started after extruded foods hit the market!

Q. Why is Oven Baking Important?
A. It’s a manufacturing process that slowly cooks the food and ingredients. It does not pressure cook the ingredients as is the case with all other complete dog foods and as such it means the ingredients are more palatable

Q. Why is Total Nutrition not greasy to touch?
A. When you extrude dog foods, the ingredients loose their palatability and the product has to be enrobed in oils and fats to make the product palatable. The ingredients in Total Nutrition are mixed and then slow cooked, thus enhancing the raw material palatability. No oils therefore needed to be added to the outside of Total Nutrition to make it feed.

Q. Why is the product called TOTAL NUTRITION?
A. When we undertook our original research amongst dog owners, they thought that as every food was called a complete food, there was no difference in the products other than the claims made on the bag. At Laughing Dog, we decided that we wanted to make our new complete food stand out from the crowd – hence TOTAL NUTRITION.

Q. Why aren’t there any claims on TOTAL NUTRITION packaging such as holistic, vet certified, makes your dog more intelligent etc?
A. When we formulated TOTAL NUTRITION, we wanted to have a range of products which maintained the heritage of Laughing dog ie good wholesome products. We know the product feeds well and therefore we thought it best to let you and your pet decide. We really wanted to have an honest pet food.

Q. Why are there crumbs in the bottom of the bag?
A. Because the product is baked it is more brittle than extruded foods. If you buy biscuits for yourself to eat, you will normally find crumbs in the pack. Although we endeavour to sieve out as many crumbs as possible in the production process, during transport and handling, crumbs may appear in the bottom of the bag. Your dog can still eat these, as they still contain all the goodness of the whole pieces.

Q. My advisor says my dog has a gluten allergy and should only be fed on rice products?
A. Did your advisor also ask you to stop feeding well known biscuit treats? All of these products are baked, wheat based and not made from rice!
