Does Total Nutrition swell when moistened?
The easy way to see the difference between an extruded food and Total Nutrition is to place both products in a separate bowl and add warm water to each product. This is to simulate what happens in your pet’s stomach. You will first notice the aroma of Total Nutrition vs. the extruded food. The Total Nutrition food smells “meaty” because it has a high level of meat baked into the food. Now look at the water. The extruded food’s water will become very cloudy and oily. This is the oil coming away from the outside of the product. Leave both bowls for a few minutes, and you will see the extruded food absorb the water and start to swell (increase in volume). Total Nutrition retains its shape and the water is absorbed on a much slower basis. Now imagine what’s happening inside your pet’s stomach if you feed extruded products.
